Abstract
A girl, recovering in hospital, finds herself waking up inside her own dream. As she is wandering around frightened and confused, a stranger situated in a dark alcove high up in the room throws down a book, telling her to read to past the time.
With nothing else to do, she begins to read and collect a large number of books from the time she has spent there. Once the stranger knows that she has recovered, a key is dropped which unlocks a door for the girl to return to reality. However, becoming attached to the stranger, the girl makes a staircase out of the books she has collected to see who it was that had kept her company.
To her surprise, the stranger is unmoving with a key shaped hole in it’s hand. The girl contemplates on returning the key and staying in her dream, or leaving the stranger be.
