Abstract
The creation of the COSMOGENESIS EP was done to explore the connections that exist between radically different sounding songs. I chose to explore the sub-genres that exist within Dubstep and Drum & Bass.
To undertake this exploration, I produced five tracks. Four of the tracks explored specific Sub-Genres of Dubstep and Drum & Bass and the fifth track was used to explore a hybrid sub-genre that included both Dubstep and Drum & Bass.
The sub-genres I chose to explore were chosen to highlight the diversity that exists within the genres. I chose Neurofunk and Liquid from the Drum & Bass Genre, as these two sub-genres contrasted nicely. I chose Old School UK Dubstep and Americanised Mainstream Dubstep for the Dubstep Genre. Whilst undertaking this project, I discovered the vast diversity that exists within these Genres.
Most people have a very narrow minded view on electronic music, and this project has vastly widened my view. Having learned this, my productions in the future will evolve considerably, as I now know how far the limits can be pushed whilst still existing in and conforming to a set structure.
