Abstract

The story pf Bolt & Gimmick takes place in a space station built to house criminals and convicts alike.

The environment was built with scans of actual space photographs taken from NASA's blue marble camera.

The full environment was constructed in Unreal (Engine) and branched off of this center room. These long hallways and clear areas were inspired by games like Boarderlands and half-lufe that would commonly have very linear pathways and points of interest the viewer could follow.

Cel shaded lighting would also be constructed un Unreal Engne to make the characters and backgrounds pop out. Giving the comic effect that you'd see in games by Telltale [independent developer and publisher of both original and licensed IP games]. (Extract from Gimmick & Bolt Artbook).
