Abstract

Noah Hayes, a young, introverted and anxious highschooler, is a poet. As his OCD and disassociation worsens, his tics becoming increasingly more obvious, he feels more and more isolated from those close to him, except for his grandfather, Connie. Having spent his childhood growing up with him, he feels Connie is the only person in his life who truly understands him. As Connie’s dementia worsens, Noah delves further into his poetry, eventually bringing it to a spaced-out, senseless Connie in his nursing home. Feeling further isolated, Noah slowly breaks down the walls between them with his poetry, persisting with writing and showing it to Connie, and ensuring a lasting connection between them, even though time is not on their side.
