Abstract
Eyes in the Dark is a 2D animated music video that captures the essence of Pacific Islander culture, specifically from Polynesia and Melanesia. It follows the story of the Goddess Moonah, the Goddess of the Moon and a powerful shapeshifter, as she navigates the betrayal of her partner, Tiago, the God and protector of Earth, and his infidelity.
The piece highlights common issues within Pasifika culture, including different forms of cheating, control over women, and symbolism relating to abuse, mistreatment, and being taken for granted. It was created to empower Pacific women, reminding them that they are powerful, strong, and capable of overcoming restraint and removing themselves from situations that are harmful to them.
