Abstract

This session brings together SAE University College and Fin VFX to explore what extended Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) looks like for VFX and Virtual Production students. Drawing on an emerging partnership between SAE University College and Fin VFX, an established high-end VFX production studio, the presentation frames a central question: what does industry actually need from extended placements, and what can educators learn from that?

FIN VFX offers insight into the realities of studio life before examining three critical dimensions of the placement relationship: student readiness, the distinctive value of extended placement, and mutual benefit; that is, how to construct a genuine value proposition for industry partners. Structured around industry voice, this session offers a practitioner-informed framework for screen educators seeking to develop reciprocal industry engagement.
