Abstract

Berd Shert Vol. 4 is a continuation of exploration of creative music and audio production. Previous volumes of this project have proven to be an effective way to maintain and develop both technical and creative skills, which in turn improve my ability to teach these skills in the classroom. Another goal for the Berd Shert project is to produce music that feels unconventional and unconstrained, giving the impression that the diverse range of styles and sounds is in fact the convention of the project. The result of previous projects have been very eclectic with genres and styles ranging from Drum & Bass to Grunge to Pop. This latest volume of Berd Shert follows this through line of eccentricity.

From a learning and teaching perspective, a philosophy of “don’t be a hypocrite” became an important tenet, affirming the importance of simple foundational music production skills, and their impact at a professional level. Critical listening, seeking feedback, and creative experimentation are some of the core skills taught in the creative classroom and thus put through their paces in this project. Reflecting on the outcomes of the project has confirmed the importance of focusing on these skills for creative students at all levels.
