Abstract
Funguys is an environmental communication project that makes the largely invisible world of mycorrhizal fungal networks visible, understandable and actionable. Beneath forests, parks and other ecosystems, mycorrhizal fungi form relationships with plants and contribute to processes involving nutrients, soil and carbon.
A plantable seed card embedded with native wildflower seeds acts as the physical entry point. Rather than becoming disposable promotional material, the card encourages a small environmental action and includes a QR code leading users into the Funguys digital experience. The interactive website, The Hidden Network, lets users explore how fungal systems connect with carbon, water, nutrients, biodiversity, soil health, trees, and plants. Additional sections communicate why fungi matter, threats to fungal systems and practical opportunities to take action. In this way, the project moves from discovery and understanding to action, rather than relying on awareness alone.
