Abstract
The Carnival is a short 2D animation that explores themes of loss, obsession and death. Throughout the story a young boy must navigate his own grief after the loss of his best friend, As his curiosity and obsession grow, the boy follows the circus and begins to uncover a darker side hidden beneath its colourful exterior. Aesthetically, the film contrasts vibrant carnival imagery with darker, unsettling elements to reflect the way grief can distort a person’s perception of reality. Through the surreal world of the carnival, the film examines the struggle of becoming so obsessed with their grief that one can no longer be recovered.
